City of Cedar Rapids
Utilities Process/Facilities Engineering Manager

The reasons this is such a great opportunity are:

1)      It is a management position that only requires two years experience in Water, Waste Water, or a similar utility (and we even count time spent in an internship).

2)      An EIT or (any state) PE is eligible provided they are can obtain an Iowa Specific PE within 4 years of hire.

3)      We are the kind of city that lives through one of the worst natural disasters in US History and then breaks records getting things back on track. No we’re not 100% recovered from the 2008 flooding but Cedar Rapids has a lot to boast about. Our Water Department lost every well except for 1 in a town of 120,000+.  Yet our community never experienced a break in their water service.  Our Water Pollution Control plant was inundated with water, but they were back in operation within 42 days of the flood cresting.  This is a City that achieves amazing things because of our sense of community and work ethic.

Salary: $66,809 to $91,707 per year based on experience and qualifications

Cedar Rapids offers its residents a chance to experience small town life in a big city setting.  Our community centered festivals and farmers’ markets add to the rural atmosphere but our diverse economic base has made us the second largest city in Iowa.  Cedar Rapids was recently recognized nationally by Forbes Magazine as the number one city for projected job growth.

But we’re not all be about work! Cedar Rapids offers a variety of cultural and recreational amenities too. Enjoy a healthy life style in a city that has every sport and club imaginable, extensive walking and biking trails, a skate park, 6 swimming pools and 74 recreation areas (including 4 golf courses). Cedar Rapids is centrally located and you can be in Minneapolis, Milwaukee, Chicago, St Louis, or Kansas City, within a few hours. Here is what Impact Lab said in their 10 Best Places to Grow Up report: Cedar Rapids, Iowa:  It would be tough to find a safer community than Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where the crime index is about a fifth of the national average.  And with a solid school system, plenty of fun activities, and affordable housing costs, this eastern Iowa city can keep your kids happy without emptying your wallet.”

Expansion Magazine gave us “the highest rating possible for quality of life”.
